About Our School
Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School serves nearly 3,000 students and is located in the Cook County suburb of Flossmoor, Ill., approximately 25 miles south of downtown Chicago. The district encompasses nearly 11.5 square miles, drawing students from the communities of Homewood, Flossmoor, Chicago Heights, Glenwood, Hazel Crest and Olympia Fields. About Our Community
Homewood and Flossmoor, where generations of the same family often live within blocks of one another, create a sense of heritage and community that reflects in the high school being a center of public pride. Demographically upscale, the residents are well educated, with more than 95% completing high school, 82.6% having some college, and 62.3% holding college degrees. Virtually no major industry is located within H-F's feeder communities, so that school funding comes largely from residential property taxes. A tradition of excellence is the cornerstone of Homewood-Flossmoor: the result of commitment on the part of district residents to the idea of a community high school with high standards for students and staff, and a solid goal of excellence in education.

"The quality of each student's life improves through the educational experience at Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School. With belief in the fundamental worth and dignity of all individuals and recognition of diversity of backgrounds, abilities, interests, and aspirations, individuals will learn to respect the rights of others."

Did You Know?

• In 2023, H-F was again named to U.S. News & World Report's Best High Schools in America list.
• H-F has been consistently ranked one of America's Most Challenging High Schools by the Washington Post.
• More than 71% of H-F faculty hold at least one advanced degree.
• Alumni from H-F's most-recent graduating classes have been accepted to highly selective colleges, such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, M.I.T., U-C Berkeley, Brown, Columbia, Notre Dame, Northwestern University and the University of Chicago.
• H-F offers more than 30 Advanced Placement & IB courses.
• H-F's AP Psychology program has twice received an exemplary ranking by the College Board.
• H-F is an authorized Microsoft Office Specialist Testing Center.
• For the past decade, H-F students have been able to earn college credit at the Illinois Institute of Technology by participating in the Interprofessional Projects Program.
• Students can also earn college credit from Prairie State College by completing certain courses in H-F's Career & Technical Education Department, including Accounting, Computer Applications, Drafting and Child Development Theory & Lab.
• In the 2016-17 school year, H-F launched the Media, Visual & Performing Arts Academy.
• In 2013-14 H-F earned the Best Visual Arts Department in the State by the Illinois Art Education Association and an Exemplary Reading Program Award from the International Reading Association.
• In 2012-13, H-F became the first public high school in Chicago's suburbs to earn the IB World School status.
• In 2022, H-F received a AA+ bond rating from Standard & Poor's.
