Special Art Projects

 

Cow Project  Piper Hudson & Melissa Huang were two of 20 national finalists in the Lucerne Art of Dairy: Art of Moosic contest. Their two-dimensional designs were chosen to be replicated on two life-size fiberglass cows, which are currently on display in the new Fine Arts wing.

Homewood Railway Project — In 2007 and 2008, the Homewood Railway Commission sponsored a mural project for the Homewood Railway station, wherein students depicted historical imagery of Homewood in maquette sized murals. The student artwork was then posted on the railway website which was then opened for sponsorship to be recreated in the railway tunnel at full-scale.


Car Sculpture  In the 2005-06 school year, the Union Street Galley sponsored the Visual Arts Club to create an "art car" for its grand re-opening in their new Chicago Heights gallery space.

AP Art History Gingerbread Cathedrals — In the 2005-06 school year, AP Art History students learned complex architectural concepts in Art History through the recreation of famous cathedrals using only edible building materials.

Collaborative Art Journals — In the 2007-08 retired faculty member, Lorelei Jones, initiated a collaborative journal project between H-F faculty members from all disciplines. The purpose of the journaling process was to facilitate creativity, foster relationships between disciplines and most importantly, have fun! Faculty members presented the journal project at the Illinois Art Education Association annual conference, where it was well received.

Art Against Aids — Beginning in 2005-06, art faculty committed to donating personal artwork to Heartland Alliance, wherein proceeds benefited the organization's activism for human rights.
