Emergency School Closings

In lieu of "snow days," effective January 2022, H-F will now use e-learning days in place of emergency days when necessary. E-learning will be utilized for days when inclement weather — or other circumstances — prohibit safe travel and learning in school. An e-learning day would be primarily an asynchronous experience for students in that they will work independently on assignments with teachers readily available to provide support via email. Teachers would supply learning resources and assignments that are consistent with course expectations and outcomes. On an e-learning day:

  • The day would follow the scheduled daily bell schedule (Block 1, 2, 3 or Period 1-7 Day).
  • Teachers would post lessons for the day in each Google Classroom by 8:30 a.m.
  • Teachers would be available to communicate with students via email from 7:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m., unless the conditions of the emergency day prohibit this type of communication.

Student Attendance Steps:

  1. Navigate to classroom.google.com, either via your web browser or via your Google Classroom mobile app.
  2. Select your Announcements class (FR, SO, JR, or SR).
  3. Click on the Classwork section/tab.
  4. Click on the eLearning attendance link and complete the form by 9 a.m.

Notification: Families would be notified of an e-learning day directly from H-F High School administration via the School Messenger phone and email service. Notification would also be posted on the school website.

If a student experiences difficulties connecting or navigating the system on an e-learning day, please email [email protected] or call 708-335-5750.

Please know that H-F will make every effort to have in-person learning, when it is safe and conditions allow. Decisions made regarding weather-related emergency days are made very carefully with consideration given to travel conditions, bus routes and, of course, the safety of our students and staff.

For questions about e-learning, please contact Principal Dr. Clinton Alexander at 708-335-5541, [email protected].
