Types of Testing

SAT vs ACT

  • Structure is Critical Reading, Math and Writing

  • Test is scored 200-800 per section and 1600 is the highest possible combined score

  • Used by East coast/West coast and highly selective institutions

  • Structure is English, Reading, Math and Science Reasoning and Writing

  • Test is scored 1-36 per section and 36 is the highest possible composite score

  • Used mostly by Midwest institutions

Please remember that colleges will take either test. We encourage each student to take both exams in order to give yourself the best opportunity.

LOOKING FOR COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES THAT DON'T REQUIRE ACT/SAT?

Note that some test optional schools may require additional essays or other supplemental information for applicants who do not submit scores. Also, some schools have specific requirements for a student to apply for admission as test optional.

Viking Test Prep

Viking Test Prep is a proven resource for increasing student performance on the SAT Exam. We provide a pre-test, study booklet, and tiered set of courses to deliver instruction to students specifically designed for their current level. The cost of the program is a small fraction of the $3,000-$5,000 that some test prep companies charge, with comparable results. We schedule the sessions to coordinate with the SAT test administration dates in October and April.
