Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School invites the community to its 2nd Annual Pursuing the Dream, a free event dedicated to celebrating Black History and encouraging unity, on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Beginning at 7 p.m. in the school’s Mall Auditorium, the event will feature theme-based performances by the H-F Band, H-F Steppers and members of H-F’s choirs and speech team. This year’s keynote speaker will be John Fountain, an award-winning author, columnist, journalist and professor.
Attendees will also have a chance to hear first-hand accounts from those who have faced cultural barriers, says organizer Broderick Booth, H-F dean of students.
“Our theme this year is Where do we go from here?,” says Booth. “While we are different in appearance, our existence is made rich by acknowledging, accepting and learning from our differences.”
The event was first offered last year with guidance from school counselors and Andre Thomas, Class of 2016 alumnus and Posse Scholar, who currently attends Connecticut College.
