Who Is An IB Student?

The IB Diploma Programme at HF is open to all eligible students. In order to be an IB Diploma candidate, students must be rising juniors and have taken the necessary prerequisites for each IB course. There is no pre-IB program, and students do not have to be IB diploma candidates in order to take individual IB classes during their junior or senior year.

In general, students who are successful in the IB Diploma Programme are:

  • Collaborative students who enjoy asking questions and discussing ideas.
  • Students with many, varied interests who may or may not know what they want to study at university.
  • Motivated students with good executive functioning skills.
  • Students seeking to develop skills necessary to succeed at the university level.

If possible, students should start preparing to enter the Diploma Programme before their sophomore year. This includes taking a second language and accelerated math classes.
