Students with Disabilities
Testing accommodations are intended to minimize to the extent possible the unintended impact of a student's disability on the measure of each content area performance on the state and district assessments. These accommodations are put in place by the IEP/504 team after determining which additional supports would produce the greatest amount of success for students. It is very important that students take full advantage of all test accommodations in order to maximize success on state, district- and classroom-based assessments.
All school-created assessments, including final exams, are accommodated based upon what information is listed within a student’s IEP or 504 plan. These accommodations may include extended time, additional breaks, a separate testing environment, or assistive technology to ensure equitable access to exams. Similar accommodations are available for standardized exams, such as the ACT, PSAT/NMSQT, AP, or IB exams. For these exams, students must apply for SSD accommodations through the test company (ACT, College Board). This process is handled by HF’s SSD Coordinator, Dr. Rachel Giddens, and begins when a student qualifies for accommodations.
