AP Exams
Advanced Placement (AP) exams are administered each spring and measure a student’s mastery of college-level coursework in AP courses offered in high schools. Strong performance leads to potential college credits earned while still in high school. AP courses provide students with rigorous, in-depth learning experiences across subjects like math, science, history, and the arts. By taking AP exams, students have the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both at many colleges and universities. These exams challenge students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that prepare them for future academic and career success. Performing well on AP exams can also strengthen college applications and reduce the cost and time required to complete a college degree.
HF's robust Advanced Placement program offers students 27 AP courses in six content areas. Employing a curriculum specified by the College Board, AP courses replicate entry-level university courses. Students possessing a love of learning, academic curiosity and - most importantly - an intrinsic determination to succeed are encouraged to enroll in at least one AP course before graduation.
Students must register to take the exam and pay the exam fees. Registration takes place through classes in September each year. The Assessment Office send communications directly to students and families enrolled in AP courses. Advanced Placement tests are administered during the month of May. The district offers teachers and students access to a variety of tools to prepare and give their best performance on the exams.
