ACT Testing
The ACT exam is a standardized test that measures high school students' readiness for college in areas such as English, math, reading, and science. In Illinois, the ACT is a critical milestone for 11th-grade students, as it serves as a state-mandated graduation requirement. Beyond graduation, ACT scores play a significant role in college admissions, eligibility for post-high school programs, and scholarship opportunities. High performance on the ACT can open pathways to higher education and reduce financial barriers through merit-based scholarships.
The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Office of Assessment manages all aspects of the ACT testing program for students in grades 9 through 11, as required by the state of Illinois. The 11th-grade ACT serves as a state-mandated graduation requirement and is a key component of Illinois' school accountability system. The office coordinates test registration, ensures test security, and provides access to required accommodations for eligible students. Families and students receive timely information on test dates, procedures, and preparation resources. By facilitating a smooth and secure testing process, the Assessment Office supports students in meeting college readiness benchmarks and fulfilling graduation requirements.
