Children's Musical "James & the Giant Peach"

In September Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School will present the children's musical, James & the Giant Peach, based on the book by Roald Dahl. When James is sent by his aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach. James suddenly finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities, but after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and disagreements. Thanks to James’ quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building.

Public performances are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. Tickets ($9/adult, $6/student/senior) will be available at the door. A morning matinee performance for school groups is being offered Thursday, Sept. 24, at 9 a.m. This all-ages production will be directed by J.R. Rose, H-F English teacher. The student assistant directors are Sarah Esparza, John Geary, Jaira Stanley & Maggie Sullivan.
