The International Baccalaureate @ HF

What is "IB"?

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) serves nearly 2 million students across 5700 schools in 159 countries.  IBO’s mission is to develop inquisitive, knowledgeable, and compassionate individuals who strive to make the world a better place through intercultural understanding, respect, open-mindedness, and lifelong learning.  IB courses are inquiry-based so students question, analyze, and think deeply about the content to explore connections across subject areas. The IB Diploma is awarded to students who successfully complete the program, and is recognized and respected by universities around the world.  IB Diploma recipients are widely recognized as well-rounded critical thinkers who possess strong research, writing, and oral communication skills.

IB's History at HF

After an extensive multi-year application process, the IBO granted IB World School status to Homewood-Flossmoor High School in the spring of 2013. As a result, H-F became the first public high school in the Chicago suburbs to offer the IB Diploma Programme.

Over the past 10 years, nearly 350 HF students have taken IB courses and 81 students have pursued the IB Diploma.
