H-F Scholastic Bowl - Conference Champions Times Two

On Wednesday, Feb. 22 — for the first time — both the varsity and the freshmen-sophomore Scholastic Bowl teams from Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School became Southwest Suburban Conference (SWSC) Champions in their divisions. Both teams won all three matches at the SWSC Conference Tournament, held at Thornridge High School.

 

New principal appointment expected Feb. 21

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, at its monthly meeting the Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School School District 233 Board of Education is expected to appoint the new principal of the school: Dr. Jerry Lee Anderson, Ph.D.

 

H-F student-artists earn five awards at SWSC

Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School was one of 13 high schools that participated in last Friday's SWSC Visual Arts Festival & Competition, held at Governors State University. Students had the opportunity to listen to a guest speaker from the Union Street Gallery, participate in workshops taught by the GSU faculty and judge fellow student artwork. Out of six presented awards, selected from 130 entered works, H-F students earned five.

 

Students of the 2nd Quarter

The following Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School students were joined by their parents, teachers and administrators on Tuesday, Jan. 31, for a breakfast, celebrating their achievements in the classroom. Students were introduced as “Students of the Quarter” by Assistant Principal Craig Fantin and their teachers praised their efforts this past quarter.

 

Careers in STEM Night

Area students and parents are invited to Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School’s 6th Annual Careers in STEM Night, where guests can find out from current professionals what it takes to launch a successful career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

 

Three seniors named Posse Scholars

Each fall high school students are nominated by their schools and community organizations to the Posse Foundation for their leadership and academic potential. The foundation’s partner colleges and universities award full merit-based leadership scholarships to multicultural teams of 10 students each (posses) who attend college together. The students have weekly meetings and programs with their group on campus and are expected to maintain good grades throughout their college years.

 

New Faces: "A Wrinkle in Time"

Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School’s New Faces Theatre will present A Wrinkle in Time on Friday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. in the school’s Mall Auditorium. New Faces is for H-F students who are new to the theatrical world and are looking for an opportunity to play a role in a show that excludes seasoned H-F actors/actresses from auditioning. This production is intended to give up-and-coming performers dramatic experience for future auditions.

 

Playing Peoria: Four Vikings headed to ILMEA

Homewood-Flossmoor is proud to announce that four of its senior music students have been invited to participate in the 2017 Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Festival, set for Jan. 25-28 at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria.
