Summary: Psychology is the study of behavior, mental processes, and the
variables that influence them. This class prepares students to study psychology
at the college level. Reading and writing assignments are required. Topics
covered in this course include early development, cognition, personality theory,
learning, the brain, sensory processes, perceptual abilities, social psychology,
abnormal behavior, and careers in psychology. Students who obtain credit in
this course may not enroll in Advanced Placement Psychology.
III Course Goals
As a
result of the study of Psychology, students will:
1)
Understand the various perspectives psychologists take in explaining human
behavior.
2)
Develop a mastery of major vocabulary concepts related to the field of
Psychology and the ability to apply these concepts to human experiences.
3)
Think critically about human behavior and experiences and about scientific
research.
4)
Develop reading comprehension skills.
5)
Develop a deeper understanding of themselves as human beings.
