Course Syllabus I Course Name: Outdoor Education I Course Number: 7205 Level: College Prep Department: Physical Education II Course Description Prerequisite: None Open to: Juniors/Seniors Length: Semester Credit: 5spcs Summary: This course covers the topics of camping, orienteering, survival techniques, selected first aid topics and various fitness activities. III Course Goals: To provide students the opportunity to learn a wide variety of outdoor and fitness related activities. When they graduate and enter the working world they should have the necessary skills to enjoy the outdoors, staying healthy as they participate in these various activities. IV Textbooks and Materials - HF PE Uniform - Appropriate athletic shoes - Socks - Sweatpants and sweatshirt are optional but suggested (gray, black, red or white) - Foundations of Personal Fitness textbook will be provided. V Course Outline First Semester • Units of Instruction: Camping, Orienteering, Wilderness Survival, Fitness • Major Assessments: Daily dress and participation, attendance, unit written tests on camping,orienteering and survival, and skill tests on tents, fireplaces, fire lighting, cooking, orienteering, survival kit and fitness testing, Second Semester Units of Instruction and Assessments: • Units of Instruction: CPR, Wilderness First Aid, Wildlife Study, Canoeing, Kayaking, Fishing & Fitness • Major Assessments: Daily dress and participation, attendance, written tests on CPR, first aid, canoeing, and fishing, skill tests on CPR, first aid, canoeing, fishing and fitness testing, plus classwork on wildlife study.
