Summary:  The first quarter freshman units includes swimming, tennis and the Presidents Physical Fitness Test.  Students will have a four week unit in swimming and tennis and a single week of fitness testing.  In the swimming unit students will learn the front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke.  They will also be taught how to dive off the board, tread water and make deck rescues.  Students will be grouped by their abilities for safety.  The tennis unit will include the basic skills of forehand, backhand, serve and volley, along with emphasis on court etiquette and scoring for both singles and doubles. The fitness testing includes the mile run, sit-ups, push-ups, shuttle run and flexibility testing.  "B" Quarter the students will have Basketball and Weight Training and Line Dancing.  In basketball the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting and defense will be taught.  Included will be lead-up games as well as co-ed competition games.  Weight training will include safety instruction, basic anatomy, training programs as well as technique instruction.  Line Dance will included basic instruction in various line dances as well as group work in mixers.

III Course Goals:  The students will develop basic skills and knowledges in each of the above listed units, that may be used as lifetime recreation skills well into their adult years. 

IV Textbooks and Materials:

            - HF PE uniform
            - Appropriate athletic shoes
            - Socks
            - Sweatpants and sweatshirt are optional but suggested (red, gray, white or black)
            - Swimsuit (one piece)
            - Studyguides will be provided for each unit

V  Course Outline

First Semester

Units of Instruction:  Swimming, Tennis, President's Physical Fitness, Basketball, Weight Training and Line Dancing.

Major Assessments: 
Swimming - stroke skill tests, land rescue skills, diving, treading and swim written test.
Tennis - Game Play Evaluation and written test
Fitness Testing - Effort and Completion
Basketball - Basic skill evaluation and written test
Weight Training  - Basic form/technique evaluation and written test.
Line Dance - dance performance grade and written test
