Course Overview:      (Specific Exercise Prescription Designed by Instructor)
Fitness and Performance activities in physical education are designed with the serious athlete in mind. Advanced techniques in strength training, speed enhancement, and flexibility improvement are geared toward maximizing athletic performance. This course is open to all juniors and seniors and may be repeated during those years.  However, the great majority of the course participants will be varsity athletes and all students applying for entry into this class should expect to maintain high outputs of effort and learning towards advanced kinesiology/physiology and physical exertion during the duration of this class.  Those students not able to meet the physiological and conceptual rigors of advanced exercise science should investigate other courses in the HF physical education curriculum.  Key instructional elements will be strength and conditioning program design, speed/agility/quickness development, core training, flexibility enhancement, and psychological/nutritional characteristics that affect human performance.

Grading Specifics:      Quarter=40%             Final Exam=20%

This course will adhere to the standard grading philosophy of the HF Physical Education Department as approved by the Board of Education.  Each student’s grade will be made up of 50% participation, attendance, daily preparation, and on-task behavior (Daily Demerit Policy) and 50% written and performance assessments throughout each quarter.

Students will be given a binded studyguide and additional resources that will supplement daily activities during the class each quarter.  For specifics on the daily participation grade student’s can refer to the yellow department policy handout that was distributed on the first day of the semester or they can also find the information on the department web page.

In addition to daily grading, each student should expect a series of written assessments in the form of quizzes/tests, biomechanical performance check-offs, and periodic reviews of their performance log/goals that make up their overall grade.

(Parents and students: please consult individual teachers for grading policies, extra credit info, class procedures, etc.)
