II Course Description
Prerequisite: 15 years of age, must have passed 8 courses in the previous two
semesters
Open to: Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors
Length: Semester
Credit: .5
Summary: This course is designed to include an emphasis on the development of
knowledge, attitudes, habits, and skills necessary for the safe operation of
motor vehicles including motorcycles. The course shall include additional
instruction on public safety, vehicle dynamics, railroad safety, and basic CPR
techniques.
III Course Goals
The goal of the Driver Education program at Homewood-Flossmoor High School is to
provide students with the information necessary to develop an understanding of
the safe and efficient operation of motor vehicles. The program is designed to
cultivate a healthy attitude of defensive driving, and responsible and
cooperative use of the highway transportation system.
IV Textbooks and Materials
Textbooks will be provided by the textbook center in the south building at the
beginning of the semester and must be returned at the completion of the course.
The title of the textbook is: Drive Right - You Are the Driver, Tenth Edition.
Each student will receive a copy of the Illinois Rules of the Road.
V Course Outline
First Semester
Units of Instruction: The course is divided into five main units of study: 1)
The Driving Task, 2) Controlling Your Vehicle, 3) Driving in Different
Environments, 4) Being a Responsible Driver, and 5) Basic CPR .

Major Assessments: Grades will be based on an accumulation of points. Points
will be given for tests, including a midterm and final exam, quizzes, homework,
and projects.
