Social Science Department 2010-2011 (June 2011) Jeff Treppa & Scott Aronson were selected to serve as A.P. exam readers this summer for the College Board. Jeff scored A.P. World History exams, and Scott scored A.P. Human Geography exams. Other exam readers in recent years include Carl Coates (Economics), Jon Elfner (U.S. History), Lauren Chasey (Psychology) & Paul Kolimas (U.S. Government & Politics). (June 2011) John Schmidt & Paul Kolimas were published in the recently released Encyclopedia of U.S. Political History by Congressional Quarterly Press. John’s entry was on the Sixteenth Amendment. Paul’s entry was on the Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson. (April 2011) Twelve H-F A.P. Psychology students participated in the Annual Psychology Quiz Bowl at the College of DuPage on April 8. Our team finished in 2nd Place out of 12 competing high school teams from around Chicagoland! Congratulations to: Josh Barrett, Amy Blumstein, Daniel Chavez, Katie Ciesla, Manju Connolly, Jessica Gonzalez, Ariel Landon, Morgan Lundblad, Toso Mohammed-Haruna, Sophie Schloen, Margaret Strong & Josh Tobin. The students were coached by teachers Lauren Chasey & Jennifer Juenke. (Sept. 2010) Congratulations to teachers Jennifer Juenke and Lauren Chasey for their work with H-F AP Psychology. They will receive the Award of Merit at the 2010-11 Those Who Excel education awards program. 2009-2010 (April 2010) Congratulations to H-F for having more African-American students score a 3 or higher on the A.P. Psychology exam than any school in the United States. The A.P. Psychology classes are taught by Lauren Chasey and Jennifer Jueke.

Congratulations to the AP Psychology students for winning first place
in the 7th Annual Psychology Bowl Competition, which took place Mon.
April 26. H-F dominated the day - beating Stevenson convincingly in the 2nd
round, beating York in a close competition in round 3, and beating Lincoln-Way
North in the championship round. (Dec. 2009) Congratulations to teacher Jon Elfner, who will receive the 2009 Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award at the December Board of Education Meeting. This award recognizes individuals for their contributions to the understanding of the humanities in the community. (Nov. 2009) The H-F Model United Nations (UN) Club attended the St. Ignatius Model United Nations Conference on Nov. 7. The club worked with students from other schools to create resolutions to international conflicts. Julia Carvalho earned an honorable mention for her work as the delegate from the UK on the UN Security Council. Matt Morris also received an honorable mention for his portrayal of Rahm Emmanuel on the U.S. Presidential Cabinet.
