2010-2011

2009-2010

(Nov. 2009) Congratulations to the Music Department for its nomination for the GRAMMY Signature School award. The winners will be announced in early 2010.

2008-2009

(March 2009) H-F’s Industry and Music students had the opportunity to spend time with recording artist Larry Sturm on Fri. March 13. As a freelance Engineer/Producer/Remixer, Larry has worked with such artists as Twista, Destiny's Child and Mary J. Blige, from such glamorous extremes as DMX to Buddy Guy and Disturbed. The talent, expertise, and experience that has earned Larry the success and respect of his peers continues to be in demand today as well as tomorrow and deep into the chart-topping future. For more information on Larry, please go to http://larrysturm.com/main.php

(October 2008)    H-F's Wind Ensemble students were honored to have the Brass Quintet from the Marine Band San Diego perform for them on Monday, September 22, in the Music Department. For over eighty-five years, Marine Band San Diego has thrilled countless thousands throughout the country with its inspiring renditions of patriotic music, classical literature, Big Band and Top 40 favorites, and, of course, the marches of John Philip Sousa. (March 2008) Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s Music Department is boasting over the plaques they received at this   year’s 10th Annual South Suburban Jazz Festival on Sat. Not only did both Jazz Ensemble I and II receive plaques for Outstanding Performance, individual soloists were awarded as well, including John Carvalho, Aaron Washington, Andy Seidel and Ben Woolsey.

(January 2008) Four H-F students qualified to participate in this year’s All-State Music Festival sponsored by the Illinois Music Educators Association from January 30 to February 2 at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria. The students and the level they qualified in include Steven Sifner, Honors Chorus; Brandon Carey, Future Music Educator; and Stuart Graham and David Kim, Orchestra.

2004-2005

Michael Rogers is a member of the Illinois Music Educators Association state Research Committee.

Randall Moore won two first place awards in the Illinois Music Educators Association Secondary General Music Division's annual music composition contest.  One award was for best Vocal Ensemble Division composition, the other for best Arranging Division composition.

For the second consecutive year (and the second year of the award), we have had a student accepted for All State as a future music educator in the Illinois Music Educators Association mentoring program.  Last year, the first year of the program, Bob Mecozzi participated (he is now a music education major at the University of Illinois), and this year Michael White will participate as a senior.  Only about 35 students are selected statewide for this award.

We have the following students participating in the All State music festival in Peoria this month:  for Honors Choir - Torrey Douse, Patrick Murray, Samuel Siner, Domini Velissaris; for Orchestra - James Pan, Sara Norris, and Christopher Sitton.

The following students were named outstanding soloists at regional jazz festivals:
Robert Mecozzi, Christopher Watkins, and Andrew Barnick (Northshore Jazz Festival and Jazz in the Meadows Festival)

In the AP Scholars program, 35% of the students were students enrolled in music classes.
