Honors Geometry Course Syllabus

Course Name: Honors Geometry

I Course Information
Course Number:
3310
Level: Honors
Department: Mathematics

II Course Description
Prerequisite: 2 semesters of Honors Algebra One
Open to: Freshman, Sophomore
Length: Year
Credit: 1
Summary: This course is extremely rigorous and fast-paced.  Students should have a strong algebra background.  Also, students should be highly motivated and be able to work independently.  This course covers all the topics in College Prep Geometry, but with greater depth.  More emphasis is placed upon precision in language, proofs by direct and indirect methods and algebraic techniques.  Additional topics include three-dimensional geometry and three-dimensional coordinate systems.

III Course Goals

1. Students will review, study, and expand their knowledge relating to basic concepts of geometry.

2. Students will continue to study basic concepts and proofs of geometry.

3. Students will explore congruent triangles.

4. Students will survey lines in the plane.

5. Students will expand their knowledge about parallel lines and related figures.

6. Students will analyze polygons.

7. Students will study lines and planes in space.

8. Students will expand their knowledge about the Pythagorean theorem.

9. Students will study and expand their knowledge of circles.

10. Students will expand their knowledge of area.

11. Students will learn about surface area and volume.

12. Students will increase their knowledge of coordinate geometry.
