Homewood-Flossmoor High School has published a student newspaper since the school's inception in 1959. Primarily the papers of the earlier years reflected the traditional high school newspapers of the times--tabloid, glossy white paper, 4 pages in length. Throughout the years, the newspapers has patterned itself after a professional publication. Today it varies in length from 16 to 20 pages, is computer-generated, is printed on tabloid size newsprint, and is published 12 to 13 times per school year.

The Journalism Seminar classes are responsible for publishing the student-run newspaper, The Voyager.

The Voyager staff currently consists of one Faculty Adviser and the following student positions: Editor-in-Chief, two Managing Editors, News Editor, Assistant News Editor, Feature Editor, Assistant Feature Editor, Editorial Editor, Sports Editor, and Reporters. Co-positions are determined as needed.

The newspaper is not published merely as a product of the Journalism Seminar classes. Students work long hours after school interviewing and researching. They individually give as much time to the newspaper as many students give to a sport or a club.

Additionally, the paper is distributed to over 2500 students, 200 faculty and administration and support staff, and 100 parents. The product reaches outside the classroom and school walls and into the community. The newspaper is read and is a viable entity--responses and reactions arrive almost on a daily basis.
