Professional
Development
Technology infusion requires a support
structure as well as a plan. Besides physical facilities, a school
needs staff who are technologically comfortable and ready to use
computers in order to infuse technology into the curriculum. New
teachers are required to pass
four levels of computer literacy as a
condition of tenure.
Computer Consultants:
The computer consultants provide support and guidance in the use of
technology to support staff
and teachers in Office
applications as well as SASI. Computer
consultants hold training sessions for all staff as
well as give them individual help on programs during the day.
Workshops/HF University:
As part of ongoing professional development, the consultants offer
workshops during the school year on web page authoring, multimedia
development using PowerPoint, and the parts of the Microsoft Office
program including Word, Access, and Excel. These workshops
provide instruction not only in how to use the program, but also
focus on how to integrate these programs into the curriculum and
involve students in their own learning. These same workshops
are offered in the summer as part of H-F University. In additon,
other technology-related H-F University classes include Introduction
to SmartBoard, Internet Search Techniques, and Navigating Web Based
Resources.
