Josie
Miller, a former H-F graduate, came to H-F in December of 2002 to introduce
computer graphic design students to the "real world" of graphic design as a
career. She spoke to students in all five graphic design classes, reaching
over 120 H-F students who are interested in making graphic design a
potential career after college.
Josie
explained to students the courses needed in college to become a graphic
designer. She stressed the importance of creating a top quality portfolio
and the importance of the portfolio in finding a good job.
She
expressed the many fun aspects of being a graphic designer but stated
interviewing and sending out resumes is a lot of hard work and effort. The
competition is tough!
Once
Josie found a job her company put her to work on several accounts right
away.
She
explained to H-F students that her job included making package designs for
companies and their products.
Her
designs were chosen by her company's clients to become the new label for
Armstrong Floor Cleaner and for Ziploc Big Bag, a new Ziploc product.
Thanks to
Josie, H-F students have a much better understanding of what is like to
choose graphic design as a career. Students learned how to put together a portfolio that can
land a job and what to expect when becoming part of a team of
designers, marketers, printers and account managers that all work together
to produce award winning designs for multi-billion dollar corporations and
their products.
The workshop was paid for in part by a
grant from Target. |
