WHFH-FM is owned by Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School District 233 and is operated by students under the guidance of an adult General Manager and Assistant General Manager. A student board of directors make all decisions regarding station policy, format, and programing. Any H-F student can try out to be on air talent for WHFH and VTV.
In 1993 H-F renovated the school creating a radio facility with state of the art equipment. WHFH radio facilities include two production studios, a newsroom, and top-of-the-line technical equipment.
WHFH has been on the air since 1965. This 1500 Watt station is among the highest powered high school radio stations in the country. WHFH operates from 7:45 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. every weekday in the school year, and from 8:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. during summer school. With a potential 2.4 million audience, WHFH offers a wide variety of programming. WHFH has an Eclectic Rock music format. This programming includes rock from the 60's to the 90's with most everything in between. Daily newscasts offer a variety of international, national, and local news. The newsroom is equiped with computers that access the AP wire to ensure up to date information, and quality newscasts. WHFH's weekly news talk show, Close-Up, includes a number of topics both local and national, which influence the community. Close-Up airs on Thursday nights from 6:00 until 7:00. Sports Mania airs every Wednesday from 8-9 p.m. and students highlight the latest in professional, college, and local sports. WHFH also airs live H-F football, basketball, and baseball games. WHFH receives most of its funding from local buisnesses, via a grant program.
