Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School has been honored with an Exemplary Reading Program Award for the state of Illinois by the International Reading Association. The award recognizes outstanding reading and language arts programs at all grade levels. The school was recognized for the accomplishment at the Illinois Reading Council's Conference last week in Springfield, and it will again be recognized as it represents Illinois at the International Reading Association's 59th Annual Conference in New Orleans this May. The district's reading curriculum is closely aligned to the ACT College Readiness reading standards and the Common Core State Standards for ELA. It aims to improve students' comprehension of both literary and informational text, expand their academic vocabularies and increase their enjoyment of reading.
