Regarding fall training strength and conditioning -- Is that just for athletes in season now and what does it consist of? Where can i find info?

In general the North Weightroom & Turf Room are open after school for all current H-F students, regardless if they are currently on an athletic team. You can get complete info on athletic training from our Athletic Department at 708-335-5004.

Where can I find a school supply list for my student?

A: Students will be informed by each teacher individually during the first few days of classes about what supplies they will need for the class. Pre-printed school supply lists are not available.

Is my address in your district?

To find out if your address resides in District 233, first you can consult our Boundary Map. Check under District Info — Campus Map/Boundary Map to download a pdf of our district. Next, you can call 708-799-3000 and ask for our Transportation Office to confirm.

I live out of district. Can I pay tuition so my student can attend H-F?

Sorry, only in-district residents can attend H-F. We do not accept tuition. For more residency quesions, please contact our Assistant Principal's Office at 708-335-5594.

No.  By law, only a parent or legal guardian can register a student.

I had two students graduate in June 2014. At the beginning of the school year we paid for two year books and never received them. Who can I contact to follow-up

Hi - My family and I just moved to Homewood. I was wondering what the tuition is for H-F?

The 2015-16 early-bird registration fee was $295 for the school year. The regular registration fee is $350.

Where do I access the parent portal to PowerSchool?

As a student, parent, or guardian, log in to PowerSchool here.

I am a student. Why can't I log in to PowerSchool from home?

In order to log into PowerSchool from somewhere other than HF's campus, you must first log into a computer on the HF network at HF.  The first time you do this, the computer systems will establish your account on PowerSchool.  This must be done at the start of every school year.

How do I get my password for PowerSchool?

As a student, your password for PowerSchool is identical to the password you use to log into computers on HF's campus.

As a parent/guardian, please look for a letter that is mailed home near the beginning of the school year.  The letter will contain instructions on setting up your account.  If you already have an account and forgot your password, please contact Computer Services either in person or by phone at 708-799-3000 x5750.

How do I check my grades?

Where can I find the teachers' web page?

Click on the directory link at the top of HF's homepage.  From there, find and select your teacher.  You will be brought to an information page about that teacher, which will contain link(s) to that teacher's web page(s).

I am a student. How do I reset my password for computer use at HF?

Please visit the Computer Services office area in the T-building from 7:30 am to 4 pm daily and remember to bring your HF ID card.  Please do not visit during your scheduled class time.

I am having trouble connecting to the PowerSchool iPad/iPhone app.

When at the login screen, click on the "Settings" button.  Go to the server settings, and set the server to be parent.hfhighschool.org and set the port to 80.

I am having trouble accessing a document that my teacher shared with me. What should I do?

As a student, be sure that you first log into your student gmail account here.  Be sure to use your full email address (@student.hf233.org) when logging in.

After you are logged into your gmail account, try accessing the document again.

If you cannot log into your gmail account, please contact Computer Services for assistance.

If you can log into your gmail account but still cannot access the document, please speak with your teacher.

I forgot my password to an account. What systems can Computer Services help with?

Computer Services can help you access your account in only the systems that we can control.  This includes your Windows network password, PowerSchool, and your gmail account.

If you are using accounts in other places (e.g., Twitter.com) please check with those services as to how you can recover your account.  Typically websites will offer a "forgot your password?" option.

Can I share my password to my account?

No.  Never share your password to your computer account with anyone.  You are fully responsible for any action that takes place within your account, so your password should never be shared with anyone.

Please protect your password by changing and updating your password frequently.

I have sent an email but haven't received a response. What should I do?

  1. Check your spam folder.  Often times a response to your initial email may be found there.
  2. Try a second contact via email.  It is also possible that your sent message landed in a spam folder.  Although employees do check spam folders on a regular basis, the volume of email that is received might cause your message to be lost.
  3. If you are using the HF Website to initiate an email to a staff member, be sure that your email address is spelled properly.  If it is incorrect, a response to your email will be lost.
  4. If all else fails try calling your contact via regular phone.

Please visit http://accounts.google.com to log in with your student gmail address.  Be sure to type in your complete address, which will be your USERNAME@student.hf233.org.

Do you have a recommendation regarding the best/most useful type of computer/desktop/laptop/tablet for an incoming freshman student?

We recommend that you choose a device that 1. you are comfortable using and 2. can access the Internet.  Many of the services that are being used in classrooms work equally well across many devices.

What are the hours of the Campus Store?

The Campus Store is open for students and parents on school days from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and from 2:30-4 p.m. It is located in the South Building Cafeteria.

What are PLC days?

PLC (Professional Learning Community) are days at H-F when teachers meet for professional growth and training from each other on Fridays during first period. No first period classes are held on PLC days. You can view which Fridays are PLC days on the School Calendar (under District Info) or on the website's Events Calendar.

How can my student obtain a parking permit?

Parking permits are issued through the Deans' Office. For details on obtaining a permit, click "Parking" under "Resources" on this website.

How would I confirm that I am indeed registered pass/fail for a class? All paperwork was turned but I don't see it listed anywhere on midterms or Powerschool.

What number do I call to report a child's absence?

Please call H-F's main number: 708-799-3000. When prompted, press 4 for the Attendance Office. If you are calling off-hours, you will be prompted to leave a message with your student's name and ID number. Direct dial numbers for attendance are: 708-335-5601, 708-335-5602.

Due to the elective nature of the first and eighth hour class periods, there is a restriction on the number of absences a student will be allowed to receive.  Students who are absent (excused or unexcused) 10 (ten) times per semester wil be dropped from the class.  In addition, any tardy over 5 minutes will be regarded as an absence.

Athletic

Is the outdoor track at the H-F Stadium open to the public?

The OUTDOOR TRACK at H-F Stadium is open year-round, weather permitting from dawn until dusk, as long as there are no H-F athletic teams practicing or playing. Please no food, gum, sunflower seeds or ball playing on the track. Also, no dogs are permitted on campus.

Are there open swim times available in the school's pool?

Yes, $1 open swim is available on Sundays 4-5:30 p.m. in the Natatorium, generally from October through March, pending any schedule athletic events.

I am an alumnus. MaxPrep website says scarlet and white are the school colors. I thought it was red and white? Which is it?

H-F's school colors are Red & White. Go, Vikings!

There are currently no residency restrictions for open swim in the Natatorium.

Is the indoor track at the H-F Fieldhouse open to the public?

Yes, the indoor Fieldhouse track will be open to residents of School District 233 when the weather turns unfavorable to walk on the outdoor track, usually in late October. Days and times will be posted when the track opens for the season.

Will the field house be open to the public on Saturdays? If so, what are the hours?

No, the Fieldhouse indoor track is not currently open to the public on Saturdays.

If my child attends periods 1-5 and gets signed out for a doctors appointment, can they still attend a sport after school?

Yes. To participate in sports that afternoon, a student must be in attendance for at least half of the school day.

Does the pool have lap swim hours open to the public in the summer?

Sorry, the pool is only open for lap swimming during the school year, generally October-April. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District's Lions Club Pool is open Memorial Day through Labor Day for lap swimmers. For more information, please call 708-957-0300.

Will the fieldhouse basketball rims be open on Saturdays? If so what hours?

Currently, the Fieldhouse gyms are not open to the public without a contract at any time. The indoor track is the only public-use part of the Fieldhouse and those times are listed during the season of use, usually from late October to early April.

Guidance

How do I obtain a transcript?

Transcipts are obtained through our Registrar, located in the Guidance Office. Once you fill out a request form (available under Departments - Guidance - Transcripts), you can send in or bring in the form to recieve your transcipts. Transcipts are not sent directly to colleges or university, but can be released to former students and parents directly. The Registrar can be reached at 708-335-5611.

What is the dress code for girls?

Per the Parent-Student Handbook 2015-16:

Guidelines for student dress are:

1. Hats and/or headwear (i.e. hoods, bandanas) are not to be worn in the building or in outdoor classrooms during the school day.
• Students may not wear thick headbands, scarves or other headgear, unless they are given permission by a dean for religious purposes.

2. Beachwear, pajamas, sleepwear, and underwear worn as outerwear are inappropriate. Reasonable cleanliness and repair of apparel is expected.

3. Gym attire is to be confined to physical education activities unless directed by the deans.

4. Extremes of brevity in attire are inappropriate and disruptive to the educational environment. • Pants with holes located in areas which could cause them to be regarded as indecent are inappropriate.
• Strapless, backless, strap back, spaghetti strap, halter tops/dresses, and handkerchief dresses/tops are NOT allowed.
• Excessively tight clothing which could cause the clothing to be deemed inappropriate.

5. School activity uniforms that do not meet the dress code criteria may not be worn during the school day.

 

Shirt Requirements
1. Shirt must be long enough to overlap the waistband of pants, skirts or shorts.
2. Shirt must cover BOTH shoulders with at least a 2-in. wide strap. Male students, who wear sleeveless tanks or jerseys, must wear a shirt with sleeves underneath the garment.
3. Shirt must cover the back of shoulder blades – no racer-back tanks.
4. Visible straps must be at least two inches wide.
5. Neckline must be located at an appropriate level – no cleavage.
6. If a sheer, see-through or fishnet garment is worn, a shirt that meets the above criteria must be worn underneath.
7. Shirts may not promote/display drugs, alcohol, weapons, gambling, and/or inappropriate language.

Pants/Skirts/Dresses/Slit Requirements
1. The waistband of all garments must be worn above the mid-portion of the hip.
2. Dresses/skirts/shorts/slits must be worn no higher than 4 inches above the top of the knee. A measuring tool has been provided inside the back cover of this handbook
3. These guidelines are enforced during the school day and during all other school sponsored activities. Dress code information regarding formal school functions will be provided with ticket purchase.
