The Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School District 233's Assessment Department will receive a Those Who Excel Award of Meritorious Service from the Illinois State Board of Education in October. At H-F, the Assessment Department team — Department Chair Dave Kush, Assessment Coordinator Tim Laba, Test Accommodations Coordinator Rachel Giddens andDepartment Secretary Micah Easter — works closely with all other district departments to develop common assessments that are essential in meeting curriculum objectives and goals, as well as state evaluation standards. The team also works to create individual academic profiles for each of the school's nearly 3,000 students.
"This data is really invaluable," says Superintendent Dr. Von Mansfield. "Each teacher is able to review a more complete profile of each of their students before they even walk into the classroom because of this dedicated team of innovators."
The Assessment Department is also in service to district parents, who receive a uniquely designed assessment report that allows them to follow their student's progress and projected academic performance while at H-F.
The Illinois State Board of Education annually sponsors Those Who Excel to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the state's public and nonpublic elementary and secondary schools. Excellence,
Meritorious Service and Special Recognition awards are presented in seven categories: classroom teacher; school administrator/principal; student support personnel (licensed); educational service personnel (unlicensed); school board member/community volunteer; team; and early career educator. The 2015 Those Who Excel banquet is set for Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel.
