PROGRAM RATIONALE
The science curriculum is designed to facilitate the transformation of all students into life-long problem solvers. Through experimentation, inquiry, critical thinking and teamwork, all students will be provided with the experiences necessary to become responsible decision makers in this increasingly technological world.


PROGRAM GOALS
The individual courses offered in the science department are designed so that all students are provided with the opportunities to:

  • Gather and analyze data in an effective, accurate and safe manner
  • Gain the knowledge base needed to be scientifically literate
  • Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Develop work habits and skills needed to be a useful member of a problem-solving team

H-F BIOLOGY Students will:

  • Develop graphing skills
  • Advance lab skills

H-F CHEMISTRY Students will:

  • Use inquiry, reasoning and critical-thinking skills to assess and analyze chemical phenomena
  • Understand and apply the scientific process to answer questions and solve problems within a chemical context
  • Collaboratively conduct scientific investigations, share ideas and present research findings
  • Identify, understand and appreciate the connection between chemical concepts and applications within the everyday world
  • Utilize educational institutions, programs and technologies related to the study of Chemistry

H-F PHYSICS Students will:
